As we all know, heat treatment is one of the indispensable key links in the production process of the workpiece. Correct and reasonable heat treatment can bring good comprehensive mechanics to the workpiece and ensure the safety and reliability of the workpiece in application. It is also for this purpose that die forgings are heat treated.

The production of die forgings is a complex process. In order to produce high quality products, it is necessary to use many fine processes such as smelting, forging, post-forging heat treatment, billet heating, roughing, performance heat treatment, physical and chemical testing, finishing and so on.

In addition, in the production process of large-scale die forgings, the performance heat treatment of some products needs special treatment. If the low-temperature impact absorption power of die forgings is lower than the standard value in the process of mechanical property test, it shows that the low-temperature impact toughness of die forgings is not qualified.

Therefore, in order to produce high quality die forgings, the quality control must be strengthened. For example, after forging, the workpiece should be heat treated between Ac1 and Ac3 temperatures, so as to change the grain size, microstructure, size and distribution of steel, and improve the toughness and cold brittleness of quenched and tempered die forgings.

Secondly, the purity of steel for die forging should be improved as far as possible, and non-metallic inclusions in steel should be reduced, especially the content of harmful elements such as P, S, Sn, Sb and As in steel should be strictly controlled. The cooling water tank used in forging should have sufficient capacity and be equipped with a strong mixed cooling water circulation system. In this way, when the die forgings are quenched, the workpiece is quenched in water to completely cool, and the quenching products are finer and more uniform.

In addition, the steel billet must have enough forging ratio and full compaction of internal pressure through the internal, which makes the dendritic structure and non-metallic inclusions in the steel, and improves the distribution of the structure. As a result, the internal defects of die forgings can also be improved.
