Casting is also the only feasible forming process for brittle alloys with poor plasticity, such as ordinary cast iron. Steel castings have certain dimensional accuracy. In general, the forming dimensions of steel castings are more accurate than those of forgings and weldments. Moreover, the production and processing cost of steel castings is low, the comprehensive economic performance is good, and the consumption and cost of energy materials are inferior to other metal forming methods.
Precision steel castings account for 40% to 80% of the total quality of machinery and equipment, while manufacturing costs only account for 25% to 30% of the total cost of equipment.
