At the 12th Shandong Equipment Exposition, Shandong Rail Transit Industry Development Forum, which ended in Jinan on March 30, many experts believed that rail transit is becoming an important grasp to enhance urban functions, and the market capacity of urban rail transit equipment in China is huge.
At the forum, Xiao Yaping, director of the China Machinery Industry Federation, revealed that the "Statistical and Analytical Report of Urban Rail Transit 2016" issued by the China Urban Rail Transit Association showed that by the end of 2016, 30 cities in mainland China had opened urban rail transit operations, with 133 operating routes, a total length of 4152.8 km. The total number of passengers completed by urban rail transit was 16.09 billion, an increase of 16.6% over the same period last year. 21 cities have two or more urban rail transit lines.
Xiao Yaping said that in terms of construction, 48 cities in mainland China have a total scale of 5636.5 kilometers, an increase of 26.7% compared with the same period of last year. 58 cities have received approval of urban rail transit construction projects and the total scale of planned routes is 7305.3 kilometers. Fifty-eight cities have approved a total investment of 3701.84 billion yuan for planned routes, of which 14 cities have investment plans of more than 100 billion yuan.
Xiao Yaping concluded that these data show that rail transit has gradually expanded from a single means of transport to an important grasp to promote urban development, optimize the urban pattern and enhance urban functions.
Professor Li Zhonghao, an expert of the China Urban Rail Transit Association and vice-chairman of the Academic Committee, shared this view. In his keynote speech on "Market Capacity and Technology Development Direction of Rail Transit Equipment", he deeply analyzed the development strategy of urban rail transit in China during the 13th Five-Year Plan period and its future market prospects. He said that although there are still some technical deficiencies in some places, China's urban rail transit equipment still has a huge market capacity.
